Three steps to stop Russia’s nuclear terror: sanctions against Rosatom
Also available in:Ua

Radiation does not distinguish between humans, animals, or nature. It destroys all living things, leaving nothing behind. The Red Forest, dead birds, and abandoned pets in Pripyat became symbols of a catastrophe where every living soul suffered equally.

Today, russia has turned this tragedy into a weapon. Since 2022, it has occupied the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) — the largest nuclear power plant in Europe — using it as a military shield. The aggressor deliberately destroys energy infrastructure, pushing the world to the brink of a nuclear catastrophe every single day.

On April 26, 2026, Kyiv residents, activists, and concerned citizens will gather in Kyiv to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster and to raise their voices against russia’s ongoing nuclear terror.

The event is organized by the International Center for Ukrainian Victory (ICUV), UAnimals, together with other partners.

Three steps anyone can take to influence this:

1. Attend a protest or take a photo with a sign

April 26 — Protests against Russia’s nuclear terror in cities around the world: “Rallies Save All Living Things. Stop the Russian nuclear war machine – Sanction Rosatom.” Your physical presence is the strongest signal that the world has not forgotten this threat. Or download a poster, take a photo at a prominent location in your city, and post it with the hashtags #SanctionRosatom #StopEcocideUkraine.

2. Send a letter to a Member of the European Parliament

Politicians respond to official appeals. UAnimals and ICUV have prepared a letter template — you just need to select the recipient and send it. You can find the contacts of MEPs from your region on the official portal of the European Parliament.

Letter template:

Dear Member of the European Parliament [Прізвище депутата],

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen regarding the ongoing nuclear threat posed by the russian state corporation, Rosatom.

As we approach the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster, we must remember that radiation knows no borders. Today, Rosatom is directly involved in the illegal occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, using it as a tool for nuclear blackmail and military shield. Their actions are not only a violation of international law but a direct act of ecocide, threatening millions of human lives and fragile ecosystems across Europe.

Despite this, the EU continues to import Russian nuclear fuel and technology, providing billions in revenue to the Russian war machine.

I urge you to take a decisive stand and advocate for full sanctions on Rosatom and its subsidiaries.

We cannot afford another Chornobyl. True security is impossible as long as we remain energy-dependent on an aggressor that uses nuclear power as a weapon.

I look forward to your response and your actions within the European Parliament.

3. Publish a post with tags

This is the fastest way to show EU politicians that we are watching their decisions. Be sure to add the hashtags — they are what make the post visible.

Post template:

In 1986, during the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, radiation proved it knows no borders. Today, 40 years later, Russia is using this fear as a weapon, holding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant hostage and deliberately destroying entire ecosystems. Rosatom is funding this war machine!

A nuclear disaster doesn’t discriminate—it destroys people, wild animals, and pets alike, poisoning water and soil for decades.

The time has come to stop funding ecocide. Impose sanctions against Rosatom! Support the safety of all of Europe and protect every living creature.
