Protest on the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster: #SaveAllLivingThings — Stop the Russian Nuclear War Machine
Also available in:Ua

On April 26, 2026, a large wave of “Save All Living Things” actions took place across dozens of cities worldwide. Participants honored the victims of the Chernobyl disaster and called for stopping Russia’s nuclear war machine, and imposing sanctions on Rosatom.

The actions, organized by ICUV together with our partners UAnimals and international allies, took place in over 10 countries, including Warsaw, Paris, Oslo, Plovdiv, Austin, Edinburgh, Rome, Brussels, Stockholm, Linköping, and Helsinki.

The central symbol of the protests was a striking installation of life-sized black silhouettes of people and animals, representing the victims of the 1986 disaster and serving as a warning of a potential new tragedy. Radiation has no passports. It recognizes no borders and turns all living things into shadows, with consequences that last for decades.

At the center of every protest there were people with posters and banners saying, “Radiation doesn’t check passports or recognize borders. It destroys all living thins and leaves nothing behind,” “Save all living things: stop the Russian nuclear war machine—sanctions against Rosatom,” “The occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is not only a violation of international law but also a tool of nuclear blackmail.”

The events were covered by international and Ukrainian media, including Suspilne, Channel 24, Ukrainian Radio, Kyiv24, SBS News, and others.

These actions are important to remind the world, and the French people, that the war in Ukraine is still ongoing… Our role is to keep Ukraine in the spotlight and to demonstrate that supporting Ukraine is in Europe’s own security interest.

Volodymyr Kogutyak, Vice-President of the Union des Ukrainiens de France, Vice-President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC)

Since 2022, Russia has been deliberately turning peaceful nuclear energy into a tool of war and blackmail, transforming Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, the Zaporizhzhia NPP, into a weapon. Since its seizure, the plant has lost its external power supply completely at least 14 times, teetering on the brink of disaster each time. Russia is systematically attacking energy infrastructure. The world must finally stop the aggressor’s nuclear machine and impose sanctions on Rosatom to halt the funding of terror that threatens all life.

“russia is currently waging nuclear terror not only against Ukraine, but against the entire European continent, holding it hostage. Our goal is to provoke an emotional response and call on the world to stop funding the aggressor and to work together to stop this global threat before ecosystems and people are reduced to mere shadows.”
