From 14-16 February 2025, the Munich Security Conference took place in Germany, focusing on Russia's war against Ukraine. The ICUV team took an active part in the event, holding important meetings and discussions aimed at strengthening international support for Ukraine.

On February 15, together with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, we organized a side event: “From the bottom up: role of civil society in resilience and recovery of Ukraine”

The main speakers of the event were:

  • Hanna Hopko, co-founder of ICUV;
  • Orysia Lutsevych, head of the Ukrainian Forum, Chatham House, London;
  • Timothy Snyder, American historian and writer, professor at Yale University;
  • Oleksandra Matviychuk, Ukrainian human rights activist, recipient of the Vasyl Stus and “Defender of Democracy” awards, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate;
  • Nico Lange, senior fellow at the Munich Security Conference.

We discussed how Ukrainian civil society has become not only a support where the state couldn’t manage, but also one of the country’s most reliable pillars after the army. Its leadership plays a key role in Ukraine’s recovery, reconstruction, and European integration.

Ukraine’s successful recovery is impossible without long-term security guarantees. Ukraine’s civil society is a driver of change, and now, more than ever, it needs the support of our European partners

ICUV also participated in a private dinner organized by our partners from the Warsaw Security Forum: “New Thinking on Transatlantic Relations: Creating a Map of the New European Security Architecture and Russia’s Strategy,” where key leaders discussed the future of European security and ways to counter Russian aggression.

Among the notable participants were:

  • Alexander Stubb, President of Finland;
  • Radosław Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland;
  • Oleksii Chernyshov, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine;
  • Four U.S. congressmen, including Congressman Brian Mast.

The participants discussed the future relations between the U.S. and Europe, emphasizing the need to ensure strong support for Ukraine.

Hanna Hopko, co-founder of ICUV, reminded that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has been ongoing since 2014 and emphasized key steps that our partners can take right now to support Ukraine, particularly the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.

The ICUV team also held meetings with key European and American leaders, politicians, and government officials, discussing important issues and expressing gratitude for their support of Ukraine.

Hanna Hopko, co-founder of ICUV, met with the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili. They discussed regional security, particularly the need for the demilitarization of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. They also emphasized that Ukraine’s victory will strengthen the security of all of Europe.

We also thanked U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul for his principled stance on Ukraine. The discussion provided a strong sense of hope for a peace with real security guarantees that we are fighting for.

Hanna Hopko congratulated the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, and thanked him for his unwavering support for Ukraine.

We had the honor of sharing our research on the topic “Endgame scenarios for russia’s war in ukraine
” with Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, the U.S. Special Representative to Ukraine.

We also expressed our gratitude to U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham for his support of Ukraine and his assistance in providing arms.

Shared values – shared goals! I have the honor of personally thanking Lindsey Graham for his support of Ukraine and for helping arm us to the teeth!

A great meeting with Brian Mast, Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee. We are grateful for the conversation and his unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine.

We also had the opportunity to discuss European initiatives to support Ukraine with the President of the European Council, António Costa.

A meeting was held with Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, Chairman of the British Security and Defence Committee, during which we discussed the report on the “Axis of Evil” developed by our ICUV team and NAKO.

We are grateful to world leaders for their unwavering support for Ukraine. Many challenges lie ahead, but we will continue to fight, spread the truth, and unite the world around a common goal – Ukraine’s victory and ensuring a stable and secure future for all of Europe.
