It has been a year since Ukraine became a candidate for EU membership. This is a significant geopolitical choice that was made long ago, and a year ago, we received support from Europe. This achievement was made possible only through the joint work of our partners and the support of Ukrainians.

“This is a historically just decision as if Ukraine is returning to its European home, but so much effort had to be put in to bring it to life,”

emphasizes Hanna Hopko

Throughout this year, Ukraine has made significant progress and continues to move forward in the development of various sectors such as legislation, trade, economy, energy, customs, industry, digital technologies, logistics, science, culture, and creative industries. The goal is to remove barriers that separate us from the EU to the maximum extent. All these initiatives have a common purpose: deepening the partnership between the European Union and Ukraine, and a deeper integration of our cultures and economies. Even in the challenging conditions of full-scale war, defending European values and safeguarding democracy, we are moving only forward.

We are part of the European family with shared values and aspirations, and our defenders on the front line firmly stand guard over the freedom of Europe and a peaceful future. The goal of this year is to initiate the negotiation process for membership, and at the June summit, we hope to receive an official invitation for Ukraine to join NATO.

We are grateful to our partners, including the European Union in Ukraine, Agency for Legislative Initiatives, National Interests Advocacy Network “ANTS,” and the New Europe Center. This is incredible work! Together, we have united to support Ukraine’s candidacy. We have conducted advocacy visits to key European cities and held discussions with dozens of committees, diplomats, public figures, and government officials.

In the video, which you can watch on our YouTube channel, we recall the path we have taken to EU candidacy, how a year ago, thanks to our partners, the unprecedented unity of Ukrainians, and the support of the European side, Ukraine managed to achieve this historic status.

This is the first video within the all-Ukrainian communication campaign “Eurointegration during the war.” The campaign is initiated by the Office of the Vice-Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration with the support of the European Union projects “Support to Strategic Communication in Ukraine” (implemented by the DAI and EUROPE Ltd consortium) and Association4U.

We express our sincere gratitude to the European Commission and our partners for their work! And we continue to work persistently.
