Civil Network OPORA and International Centre for Ukrainian Victory hosted a diplomatic breakfast titled “Sustainable Peace through the Eyes of Ukrainians: What Victory and Punishment of the Aggressor Mean for Ukrainians and the World? Expectations from the NATO Summit” in Kyiv, April 24, 2024.
The event gathered diplomats and representatives of international organizations to discuss Ukraine’s perspective on achieving sustainable peace and ensuring global security and review the impact of the document. Esteemed speakers provided insightful presentations and engaged in meaningful discussions about the path forward for Ukraine and the international community.
Key Highlights of the Event:
1. Sustainable Peace Manifesto Presentation: Olga Aivazovska, Chair of the Board of the OPORA Civil Network and Co-founder of the International Center for Ukrainian Victory (ICUV), discussed the Sustainable Peace Manifesto | Never Again 2.0. This document, representing the vision of future sustainable peace by Ukrainian civil society, emphasizes the need for continuous support with weapons and technologies for Ukraine and clear security guarantees for the future.
2. EU and NATO Membership Aspirations: Oleksandr Sushko, Executive Director of the International Renaissance Foundation, highlighted Ukraine’s movement towards EU and NATO membership. He outlined the tasks and expectations of Ukrainian public diplomacy for 2024, emphasizing the critical role of international support in Ukraine’s journey.
3. Justice and Accountability: Oleksandra Matviychuk, Chair of the Board of the Center for Civil Liberties, discussed the importance of restoring justice for Ukraine. She stressed the necessity for clear and unequivocal decisions from The Hague regarding Russia as an aggressor state and the importance of holding Russian perpetrators accountable for war crimes.
4. Mobilization and Advocacy: Hanna Hopko, Chair of the Board of the ANTS – National Interests Advocacy Network and Co-founder of the International Center for Ukrainian Victory (ICUV), spoke about the mobilization of resources and advocacy efforts for justice for Ukraine. She underscored the need for effective public diplomacy to support Ukraine’s cause on the international stage.
The event provided a platform for meaningful dialogue and reinforced the importance of global solidarity in achieving sustainable peace. Participants agreed that conceding to the Russian Federation is not an option. Instead, continuous support and clear security guarantees are crucial for Ukraine’s victory and for preventing the outbreak of a global war.
